Sustained Investigation

The central idea of my sustained investigation is the different ways in which the negative aspects of a highly glamorous city life are viewed. Most cities online are shown through a perspective of glamorous nightlife, impressive architecture, and as a place full of opportunity and potential. I wanted to show that even while expressed as an idol and almost an aesthetic way of life, there are many negatives which are rarely discussed. Overall, the media lacks a balanced and realistic view of what it's like to actually live in a city as an average US citizen. I wanted to show some of the issues that are less obviously a problem such as the lack of nature to some of the more obvious issues such as overcrowding. While all of these issues are viewed as problematic on paper, it can be perceived differently by separate members of a community. Overcrowding can be seen in celebrations and connecting with a community. Valdism can be seen as an expression of art and bringing beauty and joy into a plain area. I wanted to explore these ideas through different means of photography such as photographing minifigures representing a scene, a collage, and photos of downtown and busy events.
